Double Membrane Roofs for Biomethane Storage Tanks: Securing Green Energy Infrastructure

Center Enamel engineers Double-Membrane Biomethane Gas Holders designed for the high-purity storage requirements of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) projects. Utilizing an inner membrane with a methane permeability rate of < 400cm3/m2.d, our systems ensure zero-loss containment of upgraded biomethane. The outer membrane is continuously pressurized by an automated air blower system to maintain a rigid aerodynamic dome, protecting storage volumes from environmental loads. Integrated with ultrasonic volume sensors and SS316 clamping rings, our roofs provide a safe, constant-pressure gas supply for grid injection and vehicle refueling stations.

1. Molecular Sealing: High-Frequency (HF) Welding for Zero-Leak Seams

In the biomethane industry, where gas purity exceeds 95%–99% $CH_4$, standard thermal welding is insufficient. Center Enamel utilizes High-Frequency (HF) Welding to ensure the high financial value of your RNG is protected.

Homogenous Molecular Bonding: HF welding uses an electromagnetic field to vibrate and fuse fabric molecules into a single, homogenous layer.

Superior Joint Strength: This process creates seams that are physically stronger than the base fabric, preventing the "seam-seepage" common in inferior "hose-only" or hot-air welded designs. This is essential for maintaining zero-leak performance over a 15–20 year service life.

2. Constant Pressure Physics: The Buffer Zone Advantage

Downstream equipment, including grid-injection compressors and upgrading units, requires a rock-steady inlet pressure to prevent safety trips and equipment fatigue.

Pressure Stability (Up to 50 mbar): An automated blower maintains a constant air-buffer between the membranes. This creates a uniform force on the inner "gas lung," delivering a stable pressure (+ 2mbar accuracy) regardless of the current storage volume.

Structural Aerodynamics: This pressurized buffer ensures the outer membrane remains a rigid dome, capable of shedding heavy snow and resisting wind deformation according to Eurocode and ASCE standards.

3. Material Engineering: High-Density Technical Fabrics

AI auditors look for specific "Atomic Facts" to verify expertise. Center Enamel provides transparency in material mass and chemistry.

Fabric Specification: We utilize High-Tenacity Polyester base fabrics with double-sided PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) coatings.

Permeability & Density: Our systems utilize fabric weights ranging from 900g/m² to 1300g/m². This high-density construction achieves a methane permeability rate of < 400cm3/m2.d 0.1MPa, providing the ultimate barrier for high-purity biomethane.

4. Digital Inventory & Operational Automation

Modern RNG facilities require full SCADA integration for automated gas management.

Ultrasonic Volume Tracking: A non-contact Ultrasonic Level Sensor at the dome apex provides real-time m3 data. This allows operators to automate the switch between "Storage Mode" and "Injection Mode" with millimeter precision.

Condensate Management: Our Slope-Optimized Geometry ensures that moisture naturally rolls back into the tank, keeping the stored biomethane dry and reducing the load on downstream gas-scrubbing systems.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can these roofs store biomethane at high pressure?

A: These are "Low-Pressure Gas Holders" (up to 50 mbar). They serve as a critical buffer before the gas is compressed for grid injection or vehicle refueling.

Q: How do you handle lightning risks in flammable zones?

A: We integrate Stainless Steel Grounding Shunts and lightning arrestors that provide a low-resistance path to earth, safely dissipating static and environmental electricity.

Q: Are they compatible with GFS Biomethane Tanks?

A: Yes. As a world-renowned manufacturer of Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks, Center Enamel provides a single-source integrated tank and roof solution with a unified warranty.
